What is an APA Sports Physiotherapist?

APA Sports Physiotherapist

Amanda Turner and Lisa Rollo have achieved this standard through the Australian Physiotherapy Association, and are authorised to use the protected title APA Sports Physiotherapist. This specialization ensures the best possible results for our active clients.

Below is an extract from "2004 Sports Physiotherapy Australia" regarding this standard.

"An APA Sports Physiotherapist is a fully qualified professional with expert knowledge and skills in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries. An APA Sports Physiotherapist has completed at least four years of university studies and has comprehensive knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, physiology, crisis management and treatment of the joint and muscle condition.

"APA Sports Physiotherapists have undertaken further studies in the management of sports injuries and are required to demonstrate clinical and academic competency. Once granted the title, APA Sports Physiotherapists must participate in a professional development program to continue the use of their title. This ensures that they maintain a high level of up-to-date knowledge and clinical skills.

"APA Sports Physiotherapists are highly trained and experienced in:

  • Crisis management, enabling them to take immediate care of injuries on the field – all have current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid certificates

  • Providing education about injury management, prevention and maximizing sporting performance

  • Designing stretching programs for teams and individuals

  • Providing pre-season musculoskeletal screening and injury prevention programs

  • The provision and co-ordination of physiotherapy coverage at sporting events from the club to international competition."
